“Unmasked” by Antoinette Voûte Roeder

There is
the official mask
the impenetrable mask
the white impenetrable mask.
Then there are
the colorful masks
purple and pink
blue and aqua
made by loving hands.
One day
when the world
comes to its senses
let’s get together
take our masks
make tails for kites
or hang them from
the tallest trees.
We’ll show our faces
marked by anger
scarred by sorrow
deep with longing
every shade, every color
when the world
comes to its senses.
